Rochdale Hornets sign ex-Warrington Wolves youngster

ROCHDALE HORNETS have signed former Warrington Wolves youngster Dan Hackney on a deal until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old forward was a part of the Wolves’ 2025 Academy Grand Final-winning side and joined that team on their subsequent tour of Australia.

Ankle surgery has ruled him out of the majority of the 2026 season to date, but after having featured for Leigh Leopards’ Reserves in recent weeks, he is ready to get stuck in at the Hornets and goes straight into contention for Wednesday night’s fixture against Dewsbury Rams.

“I’m buzzing with the opportunity to play for this club,” enthused Hackney, who came off the bench in Warrington’s aforementioned Grand Final triumph against Leeds Rhinos.

“I’m really excited to play under (head coach) Gary Thornton and alongside a great set of lads.

“There’s a lot of experience within the group, and I’m hoping to learn and develop whilst I’m here.

“More importantly, I’m ready to rip in, wear the shirt with pride, and put everything on the line to get some good results for the fans in the final three games of the season.”

Hackney arrives at the Crown Oil Arena highly recommended, with chairman Andy Mazey adding: “He is a big, aggressive lad who will be hoping to impress Gary and the staff, and hoping to take his opportunity at Championship level.”
