Warrington Wolves coach Tony Smith has said that he could put out an unchanged team for Sunday’s game against Hull KR – but Ryan Atkins is in the mix to make his comeback.
Atkins missed the opening day victory at Leeds due to an elbow injury – although Smith did admit that he could have made that game if pushed.
But the centre is now well and truly in the frame to play against the Robins this weekend – although Smith revealed he could put out an unchanged side, which would mean Ben Currie continuing at centre.
“We’ve no injuries from Thursday night, so that was fantastic news for us,” said Smith.
“We didn’t get a chance to say that too much last year and you often don’t in a game like rugby league. Thankfully we could put out an unchanged team; the only change would be if Ryan Atkins returns.
“He could have been touch and go for that game anyway last week but he’s certainly back in contention for this one.”
Mitchell Dodds, Ben Evans and Stefan Ratchford could all make their comebacks in an upcoming reserve game, and ahead of the clash against Rovers this weekend, Smith admits that the Wolves are well aware of their threats.
“I hadn’t seen their pre-season form really – I’d seen their results but since I watched them against Castleford they look really spirited.
“They were the better team for most of that game against a side who came fifth last year, so we won’t be taking them lightly. We know the dangers they hold; their half-back pairing is as dangerous as any in the competition, so we need to be careful and we need to be on our game.”
