Salford coach full of praise for forward Oliver Garmston

SALFORD forward Oliver Garmston has won the praise of his coach Dave Hewitt – after also impressing opposition coach Jonty Gorley.

Workington chief Gorley said the second rower was “outstanding” in scoring a hat-trick of tries in Salford’s 52-28 win over Town earlier this month.

Hewitt likes the way St Helens product Garmston, signed in January, has worked on the physical aspect of his game.

The player has flourished since Hewitt stepped up from assistant after the departure of Mike Grady in March.

“I’m still trying to work out Oli’s best position after attention to the physical aspect of his game,” said Hewitt of the young talent, who was again on the scoresheet in Sunday’s narrow defeat at Barrow.

“He has built himself up and we are deciding if he is better at centre or in the back row.

“We identified with Oli that he needed to put some size on. He was playing in the Reserves last year, but the Championship is a step up, and he has worked hard to adapt.

“He has been carrying a knock as well, so he has been playing through the pain barrier for these past few weeks.”
