Salford Red Devils have confirmed the early release of winger Manu Vatuvei.
The New Zealand international was off-contract at the end of the year and was set to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious Achilles injury at the start of the year.
Dubbed ‘The Beast’, Vatuvei became a member of Ian Watson’s squad after joining midway through last year, despite making just eight appearances.
“Unfortunately, the injury Manu sustained in pre-season meant that he would be out for the full season,” the club’s Director of Rugby & Operations, Ian Blease, said.
Unfortunately due to me being out this year myself and the club have agreed for a release so I can go home, think it’s the best for myself and the club… I’ve enjoyed every moment and wish them all the best for the rest of the season… to all the brothers thanks for making me feel welcome, I’m always here if use need me… thanks to all the members and fans for all your support sorry haven’t been there longer… this not the end I’ll definitely be working hard to come back…. #OUA
“We had hoped that Manu would have played a significant part in our 2018 campaign however we now feel that it is best for both parties for Manu to return home.
“Everyone at the club would like to wish Manu the best of luck for the future.”
