Sheffield Eagles coach brings in second player from former club Castleford Tigers

SHEFFIELD EAGLES coach Craig Lingard has gone back to his former club Castleford Tigers to make another recruit in seasoned forward George Griffin.

The 33-year-old ex-Hull KR, London Broncos and Salford Red Devils player has followed centre Josh Hodson in leaving Castleford, where Lingard was in charge in 2024, to sign a two-year deal at the Steel City Stadium.

Griffin has made more than 230 Super League appearances, including Salford’s Grand Final defeat by St Helens in 2019.

“Griff is a massively experienced individual and has got a really good pedigree,” said Lingard, who has also brought in winger Joe Brown and versatile pack man Conor Fitzsimmons from York Knights and Keighley Cougars hooker Harry Bowes, also on contracts to 2027.

“He’s one of the best defensive and technical players I’ve worked with, and I think he will be a leader for us on and off the field and help bring on our senior as well as younger players.”

Griffin said: “This move just seems to make sense for me. I’ve worked with him before at Castleford, I like the way Linners operates as a coach and his approach to training.”
