Simon Winnard stands down as Oldham director

SIMON WINNARD has left the Oldham board, adding further uncertainty to the future direction of the Championship club.

The 56-year-old, who has had a long association with the Roughyeds, was in his second spell as a director, and was working with fellow board member Jim Minton and chief executive David Bottomley to stabilise the financial situation following the April exit of chairman Bill Quinn.

Consortia fronted by former player, coach and managing director Mike Ford and ex-player Jordan Turner are reportedly working on takeover bids.

Winnard was part of the Ford-fronted group who acquired the then-League One club in March 2023 with plans of progression to Super League. Ford, having become director of rugby, left in February.

The Winnard development came as Oldham confirmed their home game against Batley on Sunday has been relocated to Dewsbury’s FLAIR Stadium.

They had played their previous three home games at Boundary Park after solving a dispute with landlords Oldham Athletic Football Club which led to them playing at Bower Fold in Stalybridge.

Both Boundary Park and Bower Fold, the home of another football club, Stalybridge Celtic, are currently unavailable due to pitch maintenance.

Two games between Oldham and Batley were among those added by the RFL following Featherstone’s failure to compete in this season’s Championship, meaning the match wasn’t on the original list, on which the Roughyeds had a bye round.

Oldham have bolstered Alan Kilshaw’s squad by taking Warrington winger Jake Thewlis and hooker Ben Hartill on one-month loans.
