Sinfield backs Peacock’s decision to cut short his retirement

Kevin Sinfield has revealed that he is ‘happy’ for teammate Jamie Peacock, after he announced he was stepping out of retirement.

Peacock shocked the sport earlier this week when he announced he would play for the rest of the season at Hull KR, where he is the current head of rugby.

Sinfield, who retired in style with Peacock last year, believes the 38-year-old is capable of dealing with the rigours of the game.

“I’m very happy for him. It’s a huge commitment for him but he’s always been a bloke who has led from the front, and it’s time to lead from the front again in his opinion in the best way possible.

“As you’re aware with Jamie, once he gets something in his mind he never gives up. I’ve spent some time with him since Tuesday when we were in London. I think he will play actually; he hasn’t said that he will but his mental strength will get him ready for the game on Sunday.”

Head back to TotalRL tomorrow for more with Sinfield, while Monday’s League Express will feature an extensive piece with the RFL’s new rugby director.
