ST Helens youngster Owen Dagnall will miss the remainder of the season with injury, the club has confirmed.
The 20-year-old will undergo surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury suffered in the second half of Sunday’s 46-0 home thrashing by Toulouse Olympique – their heaviest-ever loss at the Brewdog Stadium.
He is the latest in a long line of injuries at the club, with Mark Percival, Alex Walmsley, Daryl Clark, David Klemmer and George Whitby among those to be currently sidelined.
Of Dagnall’s 29 appearances for Saints, 17 came this season as he stepped up to make his claim for a shirt.
He scored six tries, including a double against York Knights in May, and in back-to-back games against Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants the following month.
Dagnall thanked the club’s supporters for their well-wishes, adding: “I’m absolutely gutted about the news, but I’m going to do everything I can to get back as soon as possible.”
