SUPER LEAGUE clubs are circling Canberra Raiders forward Morgan Smithies.

That’s according to Australia’s Daily Telegraph, which has reported that Perth Bears are also in competition to bring the England international to the club for 2027.

The Bears are well on with building their inaugural NRL squad for next season, including Leeds Rhinos stars Mikolaj Oledzki, Harry Newman and James McDonnell.

Earlier this year, it had been reported that Smithies was on the verge of committing his future to the Raiders, taking him off the market.

But now that is not the case as clubs on both sides of the globe compete for his signature.

Smithies has registered 65 appearances for the Raiders since making the move to the NRL ahead of the 2024 season, scoring one try.

Prior to his move to the Australian capital, he had made 114 appearances for Wigan Warriors in Super League and has been capped three times by England.

In 2025, Smithies told League Express: “As of now, returning to Super League is not something I really think about.

“I’m happy here (at Canberra). I want to keep improving and try to stay here for as long as I can. There’s still plenty of things to work on in my game where I can get better.

“That’s my main focus but who knows, I’m in no rush for going back with all due respect.”
