Swinton secure Emmitt coup

Swinton Lions have confirmed the signing of Jake Emmitt.

The former Leigh prop recently left the Centurions to pursue a career in Australia, but he will now fly back to England to link up with the Lions within the next two weeks.

Emmitt, 27, has previously played for St Helens and Castleford in Super League before joining Leigh in 2014, contributing to three consecutive League Leaders’ Shields.

Lions coach John Duffy, who played with Emmitt during his playing days, said: “I’m really chuffed to have secured Jake’s services for the remainder of the season as he is going to be a fantastic addition to the squad. Jake is Super League quality and he plays some big minutes for a prop. His experience and professionalism will be great for the rest of our forward pack and I know our boys are looking forward to him joining us. Jake is currently over in Australia finishing off the season there, but he will fly home in two weeks to join us. I’m sure he Swinton faithful will give him a fantastic reception when he arrives.”

Emmitt added: “I’m looking forward to playing with a team that’s moving forward and which has competed well with good sides all year. I’m also looking forward to working with John Duffy who I used to play with. I know John personally and he’s done a good job with the Lions. I had a chat with John recently, and as I was already looking to finish the Aussie season early his proposition seemed like a really good fit. I know a few of the blokes there already such as Rhodri Lloyd, and he speaks highly of the club so everything felt just right. I can’t wait to get started.”
