Lewis Tierney has expressed his disappointment for Dom Manfredi after the winger was ruled out for the rest of the year with an ACL injury.
Manfredi will miss the remainder of the domestic season while the opportunity to play for England in the Four Nations has also been dashed after picking up the injury against Castleford last week.
“It’s heartbreaking for Dom,” Tierney told Wigan today. “He’s been killing it all year and I think he’d have walked into the England team at the end of the season. “I’m gutted for him, really gutted for him. I wouldn’t wish that (ACL) injury on my worst enemy, and I wish him a speedy recovery.”
Manfredi’s absence is likely to give Tierney an extended run in the team on the wing, and the 21-year-old is keen to do his team-mate’s position justice.
“If I come in, it’s a big challenge for me, and I’ll just try and do my best.”
