Wigan Warriors’ latest young star Lewis Tierney has admitted he is eagerly anticipating the 2016 season.
The young outside back is expected to deputise for Sam Tomkins as he recovers from an injury that will rule him out until around Easter.
His first appearance in cherry and white next season will be his first competitive game since July. Tierney wasn’t permitted to play for Wigan’s dual-reg club Workington because of the change in rules once the Super 8s are in place, whilst he was too old for the under 19s.
A lack of game time has been frustrating for the 21-year-old, but he is determined to make up for lost time in 2016.
“It depends on me now,” he told Wigan Today.
“The opportunity is there and I’m getting my head down and doing what I can in training and got to take it into the games.
“The pecking order doesn’t mean much with Shaun Wane, he’s said to everyone, if you’re playing well it doesn’t matter what squad number you are.
“I really don’t care where I play, wing, full-back… I’m comfortable anywhere.”
