TOULOUSE OLYMPIQUE coach Sylvain Houles called for more consistency from officials after believing his side were on the wrong end of some harsh calls in their 48-18 defeat to Wigan Warriors.
“Our boys did dig deep,” said Houles, whose team lost an early Captain’s Challenge.
“I am a little frustrated with a few calls. The first challenge, I don’t understand how that is not a loose carry, especially as we lose that challenge and it puts us under pressure.
“They got a few ball steals which were exactly the same and for us it is a knock-on. I saw a few calls like that, and I am not happy with it. When you come here and play Wigan, you cannot afford to give them that many opportunities.
“We need to be a bit more clinical with the ball and with our discipline, but sometimes I feel like we got a lot of 50/50s against us.
“I send a few emails (to the RFL) a couple of times, they give me a few answers where they disagree or agree with me. That’s all we got, there is not much feedback there.
“We want them to tell us what we are doing wrong, especially when we see the opposition doing the same. Even the players who have come from English teams notice that.
“We feel that it’s different with the calls. I don’t believe there is any bias, I just wanted to be treated fair. We just want some consistency.”
Houles felt his side performed a lot better than the scoreline suggests, saying: “I am pleased with the effort from our boys.
“I made a few changes, and everyone responded really well. We will get a lot of confidence from that game.
“Last week we made a lot of mistakes, and silly ones, which we did here as well, but it wasn’t about that. We wanted to work more on our skills and put a little bit more pressure on.
“We were a little more clear on how we wanted to attack, and I can get a lot of confidence. The week was good in training and we came here with a different mentality.”
