Tries galore for Saints wingers as they hammer York

It was a field day for St Helens wingers Tommy Makinson and Adam Swift at Langtree Park tonight, as they scored seven tries between them to help Saints to a 46-6 victory over a plucky York City Knights, the only League 1 side remaining in the sixth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

Makinson scored four tries and ended with 22 points after adding three conversions, while Swift bagged three and Saints scored further tries from Mark Percival and Mark Flanagan. Lewis Charnock also added two goals.

But York did earn the biggest cheer of the night when Tyler Craig scored a consolation try in the corner three minutes from the final hooter and Ben Dent added the conversion from the touchline.

Saints had several star players missing from their side and they gave an outing to young centre Olly Davies, while giving forward Morgan Knowles his debut from the bench.

The City Knights will take some consolation from the fact that their last Challenge Cup game against St Helens, in Round 5 in 2005, ended in a 62-0 defeat at the old Knowsley Road ground.
