Trinity pushing for Battye

Wakefield Trinity are continuing in their pursuit of Eddie Battye.

League Express understands that Trinity are desperate to keep Battye, 29, who joined the club from London on loan last season and are even willing to offer a player in exchange.

The Broncos, inevitably, are keen to retain their star forward although their hopes of doing so are certain to be influenced by whether they are successful in gaining promotion to Super League when the decision is announced at midday on Monday.

Among the players Wakefield have offered as part of the deal is former Broncos fullback Alex Walker, who left the club to join Wakefield in 2020.

The Scotland international has struggled to make the impact he did with London during their Super League stint in 2019 and, with Wakefield having plenty of cover at fullback, they are thought to be open to him leaving as part of a swap deal.

Max Jowitt, Ryan Hampshire and Tony Gigot are all a part of Chris Chester’s squad next season, giving them plenty of options.

Walker, 25, is under contract with Trinity for another season.

Wakefield are also still interested in Huddersfield Giants prop James Gavet, but they must free up a quota spot first.
