Wakefield to sign Ridyard on loan

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have completed the signing of Leigh Centurions halfback Martyn Ridyard on loan, TotalRL understands.

Ridyard has become out of favour at the Centurions following the signings of Travis Burns and Josh Drinkwater, forcing the 29-year-old to search for game time elsewhere.

He sat out Leigh’s Summer Bash victory over Bradford, while he was also absent for their victory over Whitehaven.

That has caught the attention of Chris Chester, who has decided to give the Ridyard his first taste of Super League action.

Ridyard has been at Leigh since 2009 and recently made his 200th appearance for the club, in which time he has scored over 1,500 points. However, he is out of contract at LSV at the end of the season.

Wakefield have used Jacob Miller and Liam Finn in the halves this season, but Chester is understood to be considering his options at halfback ahead of 2017, and the opportunity to sign Ridyard on a short-term deal gives him the opportunity to get a first-hand view of his abilities.
