Wakefield Trinity sign St George Illawarra Dragons prop Emre Guler

WAKEFIELD TRINITY have signed St George Illawarra Dragons prop Emre Guler on a three-year deal from next season.

Guler, 28, has 122 NRL appearances under his belt across seven seasons at Canberra Raiders and two with St George.

He’s their second confirmed signing from the NRL for 2027 after New Zealand Warriors star Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, while Leeds Rhinos loose-forward Cameron Smith will also join.

Trinity head coach Daryl Powell believes Guler will complement a young and mostly overseas middle unit which also includes Ky Rodwell, Caleb Hamlin-Uele, Caius Faatili and Tray Lolesio alongside captain Mike McMeeken.

“We are delighted to sign Emre – he is a high-quality addition to our squad,” said Powell.

”He is a starting middle in the NRL and fits our recruitment profile perfectly.

“Having spoken in depth to Emre we are super confident he will help our pack go to the next level over the coming seasons.”

Director of rugby Ste Mills revealed he had been monitoring Guler for two years.

“Emre is a strong, all-round middle forward who will add real quality to our pack through his ability to play big minutes, carry the ball effectively, and maintain a high defensive work-rate,” said Mills.

“This is a significant signing for the club, and I have no doubt he will become a fans’ favourite in no time.”

Guler, Sydney-born but previously a Turkish international, said: “Being off-contract at the end of this year, my management has been working behind the scenes talking with clubs both in Australia and the UK.

“When discussions progressed with Wakefield, I saw it as a great opportunity for myself and my young family.

“I am thoroughly looking forward to the move, being part of the challenges ahead, and joining a prestigious club like Wakefield Trinity.”
