Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have completed the signing of Warrington Wolves winger Chris Riley, who joins the club on a one-year deal following a successful loan deal.
26-year old Riley has signed on at the Wildcats having spent the majority of 2014 on loan from Warrington Wolves, scoring seven Super League tries in 22 appearances.
Three of his scores came against Warrington in July having previously crossed for 120 tries in 180 appearances for his hometown club where he was part of three Challenge Cup final winning squads.
Riley debuted for the Wolves in 2005 and in addition to Cup success he also featured in Grand Finals and was part of the squad that lifted the League Leaders Shield in 2011. His try tally for the Wire is the third highest for a Warrington-born player.
He joins Craig Hall, Matty Ashurt and Catalans Dragons duo Mickael Simon and Lopini Paea in signing for James Webster’s first full season in charge at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium and the former England Academy international is positive about Trinity’s chances in 2015.
“I’ve enjoyed the second half of the season and the success. It’s always nice when you’re winning but I think it’s a club that’s starting to move forward now and I’m seeing things happening on and off the field which are exciting.
“We’ve recruited well for next year which is getting me excited and I think if we can build on the second half of this season and take it into next season I think we can have a successful year as a team.
“We’re a club that is starting to build. We’re not going to throw out any false promises that we’re going to do this and that next year. We want to continue what we’ve done so far and I think the fans have been pretty happy with the second half of the season. If we can build on that it will be fantastic.”
“He’s played in some massive games over a long period at Warrington and will bring us a bit of experience,” said Webster. “I think everyone can see from the performances that he’s put out this year that he’s going to be an asset to our club.
“I’ve always been impressed with his attitude and he’s backed that up with some really good performances. He’s played excellently this year and he just adds so much to our squad.”
