Wakefield Trinity winger among pair of Dewsbury Rams signings

DEWSBURY RAMS have handed permanent deals to both Tom Delaney and Dave Benson for next season.

Delaney spent this year on loan at Dewsbury from Wakefield Trinity, the winger’s nine tries in 15 games making him their joint top-scorer with Caelum Jordan.

“Tom impressed us during his loan spell with the club, so it was a deal that needed to be done,” explained Rams coach Paul March.

“He knows where the try-line is, but it’s also the work he does carrying the ball out of yardage that massively helps the team.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him again this year.”

Benson joined Dewsbury on trial in August from community side Kippax Welfare.

The hooker previously spent time in the development systems of Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers and Bradford Bulls.

“Dave impressed myself and Conor (Turner, assistant coach) during his trial at the end of last season,” added March.

“A former Leeds Rhinos youngster, Dave plays at number nine, bringing energy and sharp decision-making from dummy-half.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him take his opportunity at this level.”

Dewsbury have also agreed a new two-year contract with versatile forward Joe Summers.
