Widnes Vikings sign youngster from Warrington Wolves

WIDNES VIKINGS have signed young winger Frank Sergent from neighbouring Warrington Wolves on a one-year deal.

The 19-year-old came through Warrington’s academy and although he didn’t make a senior appearance there, he did impress in a 15-game loan spell with Swinton Lions this year, scoring five tries.

That caught the eye of Widnes coach Allan Coleman, who said: “We need to focus on developing and nurturing young talent and Frank is certainly a talented player.

“He showed last year on loan at Swinton how dangerous he can be in this league, so he really excites us.”

Sergent said: “I’ve had some great chats with Allan, and it made me quickly realise I want to be part of this team and what they’re doing moving forward.

“A lot of last season I played at Swinton, so I’m hoping to build on that experience.

“Playing in this league is really physical, so bringing the ball out of the back field is really important, and hopefully I can bring some speed and agility to the team.”
