JAKE TRUEMAN is ‘under no illusions’ that the Super League Grand Final against Warrington Wolves will be a completely different game to the 33-6 demolition of Wigan Warriors last weekend.
Trinity saved their best performance of the season for the Brick Community Stadium, shocking not only Wigan but the rest of the rugby league fraternity.
Heading into Saturday’s clash, Wakefield are once again underdogs against a Warrington side led by Sam Burgess.
But, Trueman knows that his side cannot bank on the match going the same way as the semi-final.
“We were all pretty confident we would beat Wigan,” he told League Express. “But the manner in which we went about it and how good and dominant we were may have taken some by surprise.
“That never happens to Wigan at their place. It was huge for us but we’ve got to brush that aside now.
“If you dwell on that performance too much and expect the next game to go the same way with a 97 percent completion rate, then it probably won’t go that way.
“We are under no illusions that it’s not going to be the same sort of game, but we are ready for anything.”
Over 70,000 fans are expected to attend the fixture, the highest in almost a decade.
And Trueman, who was a part of the Castleford Tigers squad that demolished all and sundry before falling to defeat against Leeds Rhinos in the 2017 Grand Final, can’t wait to see the Wakefield supporters pack out their side of Old Trafford this weekend.
“I was part of the 2017 squad at Castleford when we went on a bit of a similar run with the unknown,” the halfback reflected.
“I remember that day and how special it was with the Cas fans and to get back there with Wakefield is special.
“There are guys in the squad like Powelly (head coach Daryl Powell) and Mike (McMeeken) and Tom (Johnstone) who have been through it with Castleford and Catalans (respectively).
“We’ve got some experienced players in the team who we can draw on to make it a bit easier for us.
“It was a crazy year how dominant Cas were. The memories of that day was just how full the place was with orange flags filling that corner.
“I can’t wait to see Wakefield fans do the same.”
