SOUTH WALES JETS cruised to a 66-18 win over BRIDGEND BLUE BULLS in the SUMMER SMASH at Sardis Road, Pontypridd, in which an undoubted highlight was a try early in the second half for joint head coach Lloyd White.
The effort was the 37-year-old’s first touchdown for 1,882 days – a fact unearthed by Wales RL PRO Ian Golden – the former professional having crossed for Toulouse in the 66-0 (bizarrely, the same total as on Saturday) triumph at Whitehaven on 16 May 2021.
Other Jets tries went to Aaron White, Jamie Leech, Madoc Lane, Ieuan Sims (twice), Darren Moyle, Shane Lee, Joe Coope-Franklin, Dai Hooper, Iestyn Jones and Aaron Harrison.
Jamie Marsh kicked nine goals while Bridgend made the most of the sin-binning of Sims late in the first half, Llewellyn Hawkes improving touchdowns by Joseph Woodbridge and Lewis Ingram. Hawkes also converted Ingram’s second try, in the closing stages.
ABERAVON FIGHTING IRISH toppled RHONDDA OUTLAWS 62-39.
Jay Baker led the way with a hat-trick, Cody Rees, McKenzie Gray and Lewis Francis all crossed twice and other touchdowns went to Rhys Evans, Iestyn Griffiths and Kian Parlour; Sean Waldeck improved seven scores.
The Outlaws registered a brace apiece for Ollie Owen and Dafydd Walsh while Mackenzie Williams chipped in with a try, five goals and a field goal.
Thomas Clayton and Adam Parry also raced over.
ABERAVON had beaten BRIDGEND 24-12 on Wednesday evening.
The Blue Bulls were only 14-12 adrift, Corey Harris having converted tries by Juris Kesans and Ingram, before the Fighting Irish eased home with touchdowns from Ieuan Allen and Parlour, with Iestyn Griffiths landing his second goal.
