We’re not far away, insists Powell

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell insists his side are not far away from picking up their first win of 2015, and says that in his eyes, there’s not a lot wrong with his side.

The league table shows three straight defeats for the Tigers in Super League XX, but those three losses have only been by a combined ten points, with trips to St Helens and Catalans in that bracket.

And Powell, whose Castleford team face Wigan this Friday, says he has full confidence in his side snapping their losing run soon.

“We’re doing some good things at the moment, just against St Helens we couldn’t finish it off,” Powell said. “We’re not too far away, but having said that we need to finish teams off good and proper.

“We’re missing the second least amount of tackles in the league, and there’s not a lot wrong with us, to be honest. I don’t want to make excuses, but the things that went for us last year haven’t quite been the same yet.”

“It’ll come together, I’m confident in that.”

Jordan Tansey will miss out for the Tigers on Friday due to a calf strain, and Powell has welcomed the return of fullback Luke Dorn, who will make his first Super League appearance of 2015.

He said: “Luke Dorn will come back in, and it’s a great opportunity for him. He’s looked really sharp in training recently and I’m looking forward to seeing how he slots back into the team.

“He’s not a bad replacement; he was great for us last year. He’s quick and athletic and a great voice to have out on the field, and it’s good to have him back.”
