Wheelchair Super League round-up: Leeds and Halifax flex their muscles

LEEDS RHINOS and HALIFAX PANTHERS warmed up for their big top-of-the-table clash against each other with convincing wins.

The Rhinos easily overcame HULL FC 100-16 after being 48-0 up at half-time.

Nathan Collins scored almost half of his side’s points, going over for a hat-trick of tries and kicking 16 goals.

Josh Butler added six tries, with Tritan Norfolk going over for four. Becky Wilkinson and Cam Hills each scored a brace.

Hull’s second-half responses came from Billy Swainger, Liam Stancliffe and Devon Smith, who scored the tries, with two goals from Josh Edwards.

The Panthers looked like they would easily surpass the century mark against SHEFFIELD EAGLES, but in the end settled for a 99-22 win.

They were 82-0 up on 36 minutes, with the rout starting early, when Jack Brown scored the opening try and Rob Hawkins converted.

Brown went on to score seven more tries in the next 32 minutes, with Hawkins contributing five, plus another goal, before Finlay O’Neill went over, with Wayne Boardman kicking his eleventh goal.

Tries in response from Chris Haynes and Sid Ramsey, both converted by Joe Wink-Simmonds, made it 82-12, and the comeback continued eight minutes into the second half when Luis Domingos scored the Eagles’ third try, with Wink-Simmonds converting again.

A Brown try and Boardman goal extended Halifax’s lead to 88-18 on 51 minutes, but Sheffield hit back again through an unconverted Domingos score.

But that was it for the Eagles, while Jordan Holt and Rob Hawkins added tries, Boardman converted the former and Finlay O’Neill completed the scoring with a field-goal.
