ANDY LAST claimed Hull FC had Super League’s best tryline defence after their 36-12 victory over Huddersfield Giants.
Hull had plenty of pressure to repel during the game and coach Last said: “I think that’s been evident every week – that spirit, that togetherness and that willingness to defend.
“I think we are the best team in the competition at defending our tryline. With the amount of play-the-balls that we’ve conceded, I think it was taking something like 18 tackles to concede.
“You get your rewards for hard work so I’m really pleased for the boys.”
It was a first win in five and Last added: “Confidence has been a bit low because we haven’t got the results, but I don’t think we’ve been far away in performance.
“Today we managed to stay in the fight. They (Huddersfield) got off to a 6-0 start but it didn’t knock us.
“We knew we needed to play the long game with Huddersfield and we knew if we put enough fatigue into them, we’d cause them some problems.
“We certainly did that and it was nice to sit there with 15 minutes to go, knowing that the game was in the bag.
“We scored some really nice tries. There was a nice blend between structure and just playing on the front foot on the back of a quick ruck.”
