LONDON BRONCOS coach Jason Demetriou says winning the 1895 Cup will only enhance their bid to get into Super League.
The ambitious capital club are awaiting further clarification from the RFL over how the top flight will look next season.
Demetriou’s side have bossed the Championship, already securing top spot, and have their sights trained firmly on play-off success.
But first on the agenda is the 1895 Cup final against Widnes Vikings at Warrington on Bank Holiday Monday (August 31).
“We can only control the controllables, and a club we’re doing everything we can in terms of investment, growing our profile and trying to be successful on the field to give ourselves the best chance (of moving up),” said Demetriou (pictured).
“Of course winning matches and lifting trophies helps grow a club’s profile and we want to create a culture of consistency and success.
“That will help us if and when we do make Super League and it’s something both Leigh and Wakefield have done after playing in the Championship.”
Both those two won the 1895 Cup before being promoted, and former Widnes player Demetriou added: “It’s a target we identified right back in pre-season.
“Widnes are playing well, and we got a taste of what we can expect when we played them earlier in the month (the Broncos won 42-36 a the DCBL Stadium).
“We’re excited to be involved, and I think it could be a cracking game.”
