Widnes and Saints legends lock horns ahead of Easter Monday clash

Legends from both Widnes and St Helens have gone head to head in a unique video challenge series ahead of the Easter Monday clash between the two sides.

The Vikings have joined forces with Motorpoint to help create a special series of challenges that see favourites of the two clubs go head to head.

Monday’s match will see the return of the Karalius Cup, and Motorpoint, the UK’s largest independent car retailer, has got involved to promote the contest.

Mark Smith and Paul Sculthorpe, who captained the Vikings and Saints during their careers, go head to head in a variety of challenges at Oulton Park Racetrack, while they also reminisced about their days taking part in the match on the field.

“Widnes and St Helens games are massive,” Smith said.

“Wearing the Widnes Vikings shirt was my entire life. To wear it made me immensely proud and I remember it fondly. The full bunch of the current players, especially under Denis Betts, will be as proud as I was to wear it.

“You only have to go to the games and see what it means to every person in the stands. Once the home support is on your back it gives you an extra leg and it can be an intimidating place to play.”

Sculthorpe added: “It was a game you pencilled in early in the year and make sure you won.

“Both sets of fans in the game will be very vocal. Saints are sat at the top of the league and the fans are certainly enjoying it.”
