WIDNES VIKINGS came from behind to beat WAKEFIELD TRINITY 16-12 in the League One play-off final.

Wakefield, who finished four points behind table-topping Widnes in the regular season, enjoyed the best of the first half to lead 12-8 at Bartercard Odsal.

Tahnee Holmes and Tarren Williamson tries were both improved by Natalie Ward, while Vikings efforts from Naoimh Gill-Ward and Becky Webb went unconverted.

The key moment came just before the hour when Sammy Traynor scored from dummy-half for Widnes.

Aimee Wood added the conversion to put her side in front for the first time, and then a late penalty-goal to seal their promotion to the Championship.

ROCHDALE HORNETS will step up to the third tier next season after a 20-14 victory against neighbours ROCHDALE MAYFIELD.

Hiske Blom and Darcey Price scored tries in the opening quarter, the latter goaled by Molly Udale-Williams, for a 10-0 Hornets lead before a Lily Mangan try cut the deficit.

A second touchdown by Blom early in the second half was followed by one from Sharon Pearson as Mayfield kept within a converted try going into the closing stages.

Claire Collins’ score seven minutes from time, improved by Udale-Williams, proved crucial, as Claire Sutcliffe’s try and conversion kept Mayfield battling to the end.

Like Widnes, Hornets added play-off final glory to winning the League Leaders’ Shield.
