WIGAN WARRIORS head coach Matt Peet believes his side will have their work cut out against Wakefield Trinity on Saturday.
The Warriors go into the clash at The Brick Community Stadium as favourites following a year in which they have lifted the League Leaders’ Shield and the Challenge Cup.
But Wakefield outplayed Leigh Leopards last Friday and, following a week off in which the Wigan players went on a training camp to Harrogate, Peet knows the dangers of Daryl Powell’s side.
“You try and utilise the week off the best you can and we have got a lot of work done,” Peet said.
“We were able to spend a bit more time together, they enjoyed it and it hopefully it puts us in a good position to play Wakefield.
“For a few years now, since Daryl Powell took over, they have been superb as a club on and off the field.
“Their recruitment has been smart with good overseas players and quality young British players.
“They have got some big powerful athletes and detailed attacking shape so there is a lot for us to contend with.
“They certainly deserve to be in the semi-finals and will be focused to go to the final.”
Peet has explained how there has to be a balance in preparing for each semi-final.
“You’ve got to get it right for where the group is at,” he said. “Every semi-final is a little bit different so I don’t think it’s set in stone.
“It’s about striking the right call for the week in how we train and prepare.”
Peet understands that being Wigan head coach, the pressure to perform is always there, adding: “It’s what you would expect for the club.
“You always know you’ve got to be aiming to be in the big games so you shouldn’t be surprised if you get to them.
“It’s a testament to the hard work of a lot of people.”
