Wigan coach Shaun Wane has confirmed the club have entered talks with influential half-back Blake Green over a new contract.
The 27-year-old Australian was man of the match in last season’s Grand Final win and is nearing the end of his two-year deal with the reigning double champions.
This season he has scored four tries and assisted 12 others, fuelling rumours that have linked the former Hull KR and Cronulla half with a return to the NRL or big-spending Salford Red Devils.
Wane is hoping to keep hold of his star half-back. He told BBC Radio Manchester: “We’re in talks with Blake and his mnaagement team. He’s happy here. I’m thrilled with the way he’s playing.
“There’s a certain date when clubs are allowed to speak to players and we stick to that. After that he is fair game, but Blake has told me he’s very happy here and we’re way down the road and speaking to his agent.”
