Wigan to face US side in friendly

Wigan Warriors head coach Shaun Wane has revealed the club are to play a pre-season friendly today (Thursday) against USA side Jacksonville Axemen, as they step up their preparations for 2015.

The game – which has been billed as an opposed training session – will see Wane’s men get a valuable run-out during their tour of the United States, as well as testing out their new style they are planning to incorporate in the forthcoming season.

“We’ll get something out of a game of scrimmage against them. We’ll not be going full out, but it’s as close to a game as you can get and it’ll give us a chance to try out a few things we’ve been working on,” Wane told the WEP.

“We won’t be keeping score or anything like that. We’ve tweaked a few things this year and we want to see how they go.

“It’s also a good chance to give something back to the Axemen. They’re nice people and they’re banging the drum for our game over here, and we’re happy to help out.”
