MATT PEET has concurred with Hull KR counterpart Willie Peters in believing Saturday’s Super League Grand Final will “come down to moments”.
The Wigan Warriors boss is preparing for his third straight Old Trafford visit, after wins over Catalans Dragons (10-2) in 2023 and Hull KR (9-2) last year.
There was only one try in each of those games, scored by Liam Marshall and Bevan French respectively, and Peet expects a similarly tight affair this time around.
He said: “It will come down to moments. Hopefully it’s a piece of skill and not an individual mistake.”
Of Hull KR’s campaign, winning both the Challenge Cup and League Leaders’ Shield under Peters, Peet said: “I’ve been very impressed.
“I’m not surprised. They’ve been building year on year since Willie took over.
“One thing about winning a final against quality opposition is you know they’re going to come back better and stronger. We’re prepared for that.
“There’s so much to admire about the way they conduct themselves, the club and the team. You can see that continuing for years to come.
“We’re in for a game and I’m sure it won’t be the last time we play them in a big game.”
Peet said he had no arguments about Hull KR taking the League Leaders’ Shield after two years in the Warriors’ trophy cabinet.
“Of course you want to win it, but to be honest I got my head around not finishing top probably much earlier than people thought,” he said.
“I could see where we were at and I could see where Hull KR were heading. If anything had happened at the end to swing it, it wouldn’t have been just, because they have been the consistent team.”
