Wigan Warriors ‘had to earn everything’ in key win

MATT PEET felt his Wigan Warriors side “had to earn” everything they got as they went top of the Super League ladder.

The Warriors made it twelve Super League victories in succession with a 26-12 win at home to Wakefield Trinity.

“I’m very pleased with how the game unfolded,” said Peet. “The first half was intense, particularly at the start when we went set-for-set for a long time, but we came out the other side of that. We had to earn everything we got.

“We got a little sloppy with the ball in the second half, but when we had to defend, for most parts I liked it.

“Wakefield throw so much threat at you, they never stop asking questions, and they’re physical as well. We’ll learn a bit from the way we defended, the bits we got right and also the bits we didn’t quite get right.”

When asked about the tries Wigan conceded, Peet added: “The kick one I can live with as we scrambled a lot, saved a lot, and our desperation was never in question.

“The one where they go through two of our big men we will need to have a look at.

“Take that one out and our defence was very good, particularly as Wakefield played pressure-free in the second half which brings different challenges – plenty of ball movement, second phases. We had to be good. I thought we were very composed.”
