Newly-appointed Wigan Warriors assistant coach John Winder praised the efforts of his youthful Wigan side following their 26-20 reverse against Leigh.
The Warriors stormed into a 14-0 lead before eventually going down to the well-fancied Centurions, who fielded a strong side.
“It was a really good hit-out and I was pleased with the start. Some of the young lads stood up against a really good Leigh team,” he said.
“We pretty much played most of the game with one half in Sam Powell. Nick Gregson is normally a back-rower and he then got a knock to his knee. We then put Gabe Fell there for a little bit and I thought they really stood up and had a dig.
“Jack Wells did well. He’s only an 18-year-old kid and young Joe Bretherton carried the ball well in his first spell.”
