Wolfpack still wait for RFL decision on Watkins

Toronto are still awaiting the RFL’s approval for them to sign Kallum Watkins.
The centre has agreed to join the Wolfpack, but the RFL has yet to give the move the green light.
Despite the fact that the Wolfpack have drastically reduced their playing costs through wage reductions following the Covid-19 pandemic, it does not affect their actual salary cap.
The cap is determined by a player’s cap value, not the actual cost of their players.
As a result, Toronto’s cap value has not changed, meaning the RFL needs to evaluate whether the club can sign Watkins without exceeding the cap.
The delay isn’t thought to be untoward; with no action currently taking place, as the matter isn’t deemed as a priority.
However, all parties are hoping to come to a resolution soon.
Watkins is a free agent after leaving Gold Coast to return to the UK and the Wolfpack were quick to make a move for the England international.
