York forced to play another ‘away’ friendly

The ongoing ground situation surrounding York City Knights, York City FC and the City of York Council has led to the Knights being forced to confirm another friendly on the road.

After last weekend’s proposed home tie against Hull FC was switched from Bootham Crescent to Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium, the Knights will again take a fixture on the road next weekend.

They will play Featherstone Rovers at Pontefract RUFC on Sunday 25 January, with a trip to Castleford still scheduled for the following week.

In a statement on their website, the Knights said: “The club usually look to organise four pre-season fixtures, mostly at home, in order to not only help with the fitness and conditioning of the squad before the season begins but also to provide vital income.

“However, due to the current situation the Knights have been left helpless in having to organise just three friendlies, all of which will be away fixtures taking place outside of the City’s walls and without financial gain for the club.”
