  1. Just heard that Wilf Rosenberg has passed away aged 84... Before my time (honest!) but sounds like he was some player for Leeds and Hull FC. RIP

    Widdop - Wire

That should cure him of his "homesickness" !

Lee Radford determined to re-ignite Hull FC

You could make an argument for Luke Briscoe as well, before he was poached by Uncle Kath! Pretty sure he was brought through FC's academy?
  5. I was right with you until you mentioned Ash Golding, or as I prefer to call him, Calamity Golding πŸ˜‚
  6. Why were you named after the third longest river in England ❓

    Luke Gale

It's an interesting point... I do feel for Gale and hope he has a speedy, full recovery. However, I shudder when I hear of anything "special" to do with Rugby League, as it invariably will be a mish-mosh and cause consternation with other clubs etc. My understanding is he had missed the internationals as he had to have surgery as his knee had not healed properly. He was likely to miss a month or 2 of the start of the season (quote from Jon Wells " Gale missed four months of the 2018 season with a broken kneecap and, although he made his comeback during the play-offs, he was forced to miss England's Test series against New Zealand in order to undergo further surgery, which would have forced him to sit out the first month of the new campaign."), so he wasn't expected to play a full season anyway... I'm no fan of the Salary Cap, but get the feeling, it's becoming a term rather than a practice! I'd have thought that by deregistering Gale, to get him off cap and then register another player, would do the job, although it would free him up to be signed elsewhere? That to me would be the way to do it without any "special dispensation"? Cas run the risk of him being poached, but c'est la vie! If anyone has a link to the current Salary Cap rules it might help? I just see this being very messy!

Doesn't that mean he becomes a free agent and clubs can come in for him? That's how Wire lured Tom Lineham, when he was sat at home with a broken leg!
  9. My twopenneth - I don't think it matters where it is played and as such, why travel all the way to a city that has very little interest in the event? If a bidding war starts from grounds wishing to hold the event, then I'd say jump at the chance - who in their right mind limits there opportunity to make a profit? If a 40k ground bids the most, I'm fairly sure the price of tickets could go up to balance any loss of ticket sales - folk pay Β£200 a ticket to get to see average pop stars in similar venues! The future is obviously going to be online, live steams etc and that's where the marketing revenue lies, not whether the BBC gives it much air time! I'm for change and development, not for standing still!
  10. Obviously not for too long as he'll be in the Whalebone with us on Friday night! πŸ˜‚
  11. I haven't got a clue how it will pad out this year! I think Catalans will be continuing to improve and might surprise some with how well they go. Saints will probably continue in a similar vein to last season, so they'll be there or thereabouts. Wigan could have a bit of a mare this year... A lot of big changes might upset the apple cart and they will need to get off to a decent start to quickly get momentum. Their early fixtures could very well set a tone for the season! Wire and Leeds are the funny ones for me - A lot of changes at Leeds might make it a jittery start and Wire as we all know, on paper have a squad to rival most, but getting them all to gel for a full season seems just beyond them. Wakefield are doing great with (no offence) using a smaller wallet than others, but can they sustain the momentum? Cas have had their day in the sun and although they won't be out of the top 6, they still don't have the minerals to hit the top again. Might be a decent tip for the CC. Hull - Despite the 11 losses at the end of last season, many are forgetting the very limited number of games we had the same half back pairing and injuries to a lot of strike players. If the injury fairy is more favourable this season Hull will do ok - Top 6 and I'll be happy as a few of the youngsters will hopefully get more game time in readiness for 2020 when a shed load of existing players are off contract. Huddersfield? I just don't know what to expect from them, all I do hope is that the soccer team does rubbish and more fans turn up to watch the Giants, who can play some really nice rugby at times. I expect Salford and London to be in the doldrums although either are capable of putting in a surprise, but not too often. The Noisy Neighbours have done a fair bit of recruiting and will cause a few upsets (watch out Wire!), but I don't think they have the pack to go all season and create enough oomph for them to push near the top. They should be happy if they get 8th or 7th, but if they beat Hull FC, most of their fans will be happy! So basically that's my view although probably I'll be proven wrong and some smart bottomed person (OF) will throw this retort in my face come October 2019! P.S. OF was involved in a serious RTA whilst pedaling through a local park in the dead of night and has bruised his pride (and face), so I expect you lot to go easy on him if he posts more than his usual drivel! 🚳

    Oledzki Signs 4 Year Deal

Well now I've read all that, I think I'm going to start a campaign to get interest going in Zimbabwe, seen as young Masimbaashe Matongo is from there! Oh and Gareth Ellis mentioned recently how he thinks we'll see a big difference from Matongo this season as he thinks he's "turned the corner" to become a top notch forward. I think it's great that we are talking up some young stars of the future (hopefully) and as to where they originate from, don't really give a stuff! πŸ˜‹

Paul Gallen is on the money

Yeah but Segayaro was rubbish and nobody really cares!
  14. Similar tbh - Both a useless adornment seen hanging around peoples necks! πŸ… In fairness if Myler is playing behind the GB pack who hold their own or better still get on top, I expect he'll do a decent job. I hope we can get the ball left to the Connor / Makinson a bit more than last week as they are really causing the Kiwi's a lot of trouble...

    Agar in! (At Leeds)

Just been reading about this! So where does it leave Leeds? Looks like the wheels are already falling off before the bus has got going!

    New Wigan Coach(es)

Shaun!!!! Hope it doesn't turn out to be Jimmy! Can a coach who's been coaching Union switch so easily? Will be an interesting experiment and if successful, a real shot in the eye for the shamateurs! Time will tell, but I can't help but feel that any elation shown by Wiggin fans might just be a bit early...
  18. Anyone know when we can vote for Ben Barba MOM ? I'm getting impatient!
  19. A week ago, before the Connor injury, I'd have said a Hull win... Now I think we just won't have enough "magic" to turn Wakey over. Expecting it to be a nail-biter with Trin using home advantage to scrape in πŸ€• Wakey 26 v 24 Hull

    Hall to Roosters (Merged threads)

Looks like there's going to be a sea change at Leeds and a lot of new players being bought in. Good luck to Hall, can't fault his service to Leeds and England. Like others, I feel he might just have left it too late.
  21. That’s exactly what I thought!
  22. Reading some of the press reports I thought the Rhinos had signed Jason Taumololo πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  23. Oh yes - how stupid of me! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  24. Probably right there... Do you think because of the quality in the past, that they've not been as switched on with the "future"? Seems like there is a fairly big gap?
