My intitial view of the incident was that the decision was harsh. Some say well the rule is there was contact with the kicker. I think given the instructions to refs it could be considered the ref had to award a penalty and bin him. There's different sorts of contact. The deliberate or reckless contact does indeed deserve the penalty and bin. However when the contact is unintentional and of a very light kind with the player running past the kicker and looking fully at the departing ball then there should be some common sense applied. Yes, give a penalty which for me would have been sufficient. To bin Grant was an injustice, whatever the letter of the law involved says.
