I think the issue there is that it is all too sporadic. Sure NZ beat Australia last time round but then its shut up shop for 11 months at best. We don't even know when the next one is and by the time we get it everyone has forgot about the last match. That's before the fact that we don't even treat such games as a major event, and especially in Australia, see broadcasters and organisers treat them as a tier below SOO and the NRL Its impossible to build momentum or proper rivalry with the calendar and organisation that we see.

It certainly was. It was a half hearted disaster from start to finish. When the RFL treats matches as 2nd rate it shouldn't then be shock when RL fans and the general sporting public fo likewise. It was a prime opportunity to make international RL work for England outside NZ and Australia. As importantly it should have been a way to raise badly needed money for the RFL and Tonga too. The RFL should have been pulling out all the stops so that evey nation would be clamouring to come and tour. Instead they did the opposite and it very evidently had the opposite effect too.

I know it's a what if question but how strong would North Sydney now be in the NRL if they hadn't been forced to merge? The Manly merger certainly never worked out as intended. They represent a fair size, wealthy area of Sydney, that now isn't represented, and a fan base who became alienated and followed other sports. Their crowds before the SL wars were considerably more than Souths, Balmain, Wests, Canterbury Bulldogs, Penrith etc and they obviously still have a bit of money and backing. I understand clubs had to be cut etc but on the face of it I think it was a poor choice. I also understand why more NSW teams aren't desirable when there are completely under represented and non represented areas. For me we have to have Perth, NZ2 and even another Queensland team to get to 20. Once we get that though and with Sydney growing is there a chance?..... In the new wealthy and powerful NRL, that seems to now appeal to a much wider base, I do think it would be interesting to see how they would go again though and if we would see a Souths style rebirth.

Covid was disastrous for the international game. The cancelled Ashes tour was the throwback to the early 90s that everyone wanted and the World Cup scheduled for 2021 was going great guns until the cancellation. The international game could really have been booming by now on the back of those.

Used to love these as kid. You've made me feel all nostalgic now!

I am not interested in arguing with you Harry or your pathetic attempt to tag others in a lame attempt to come to your aid and pile on. Pathetic. Asiata is careless and lazy with his technique. You disagree and that's fine. I however think Phiggins has it spot on with his analysis. There is no more to add than that. -

Ah yes, a little like the 9 page Hardaker thread were you made a total of 1 post, indeed the last post on the thread 6 days after it was started and once everyone else had stopped. Pot, kettle, black springs to mind. -

I said banned previously due to poor technique. It's weird how you are trying to change what I actually said. -

It is rather weird to start a thread like this. Almost every week we have a general disciplinary thread where this kind of stuff is covered yet for some bizarre reason we have a thread like this celebrating someone getting off. As you say Phiggins is absolutely correct, there is an obvious problem that will be costly to Leigh if not rectified. It's head in the sand stuff to ignore that. -

That's an nice, well rounded and balanced post. Asiata may have got off this time but he has been banned previously and is very likely to be banned again in the future unless he tidies up his technique. -
NRLW Increases To 10 Teams In 2023
Damien replied to Sports Prophet's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Great to see more expansion and the Warriors joining can only be good for the game in New Zealand. -
What's the best game you've been to?
Damien replied to wakeyranger's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
That was epic watching it on TV and such a great moment. It was just fantastic seeing Australia lose one and someone else winning. Unfortunately I wasn't there but lucky you. -
Ireland, Scotland, Italy and Lebanon demotion
Damien replied to Damien's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Same with Ireland. I hope the IRL aren't gullible enough to count players as being registered if they aren't resident in that country. That is a big stick that they should certainly be using with these countries.
