Workington Town sign Australian winger

WORKINGTON TOWN have added another Australian to their squad in the shape of outside back Tanna Featherstone.

The 20-year-old has developed in the systems of Cronula Sharks and South Sydney Rabbitohs, playing in the New South Wales Jersey Flegg (Under 21) competition.

Featherstone, who has signed a deal until the end of this season, arrived in the UK on Thursday and could make his debut on Sunday at Dewsbury Rams.

Town coach Jonty Gorley explained: “We first looked at Tanna during the off-season when we were recruiting but at the time we thought we were okay for outside backs, so we left it but kept in touch.

“Now that we’ve suffered some long-term injuries to Oscar Doran (hamstring) and Spencer Fulton (head), and a recent HIA is taking longer (to clear) for Alex Donaghy, we decided to see if we could make the move happen.

“Ash (Kilpatrick, recruitment co-ordinator) contacted Tanna last week to see if he was still interested in coming to Town. He said he was, and we had the deal done in a couple of days.

“He’s a winger who has some pace and brings energy with his carries, and he can come up with some good reads defensively.”

Workington signed Braden Leigh, Bear Williams and New Zealander Tuarae Rawhiti ahead of this season from down under, joining Zarrin Galea, who shared the League One Player of the Year award in 2025, in Town’s overseas contigent.
