SALFORD RED DEVILS have signed Oliver Russell from Wakefield Trinity on a two-week loan deal.
The halfback is making his return from a broken hand, suffered at the beginning of April, which has limited him to seven Wakefield appearances since signing from Huddersfield Giants ahead of this season.
Russell replaces Danny Richardson, who has returned to Hull KR following the end of his own two-week loan, in the Salford squad.
He is available for matches against Castleford Tigers, this Sunday, and Leeds Rhinos on Friday, July 18.
Salford coach Paul Rowley said: “He has had an injury this year but he has been in full training for a few weeks.
“Wakefield are on fire at the minute so he has joined us for some game time. Danny Richardson has gone back to Hull KR so it fills that gap.
“Olly has been a consistent performer, mainly at Huddersfield, during his career. This year has been a real challenging year for him, going to a different club and learning new things.
“He is a good lad, he comes from a good family and we are pleased to have him on board.”
However, Rowley is in two minds about the success of the club’s extensive use of the loan system amid their financial challenges.
“It’s frustrating (when players are recalled) but it’s always with a wry smile because we are pleased lads are doing well,” he added.
“They have come to us in good faith and they have applied themselves brilliantly but you need to start teaching new systems again so it keeps us on our toes.”
