George Flanagan signs new long-term Huddersfield Giants deal

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS have agreed a new contract with George Flanagan to keep the rising star at the Accu Stadium until the end of 2029.

The fullback signed for Huddersfield when he was only 17 at the end of 2022, and officially joined after spending a final season with first club Bradford Bulls.

He is fresh from a breakthrough campaign, making his Giants debut and going on to play 25 times, scoring ten tries and 44 goals.

That form saw Flanagan nominated for Super League’s Young Player of the Year award, missing out to Harry Robertson of St Helens.

But Flanagan knows he must continue to improve, not least with fresh competition for the fullback spot from a permanently signed and fully-fit Niall Evalds.

“I’m glad to get it over the line now and focus on what could be a big year for the Giants,” said the 21-year-old.

“I’ve been focusing on getting more physicality, like Robbo (coach Luke Robinson) has wanted me to do, and getting my fitness right.

“You’re only good as your last year and I want to kick on and be better than I was last year.”

It’s an attitude that pleases Robinson, who added: “He’s someone we really want to build a side around.
He’s young, he’s English, and he showed last year what he can do.

“He’s got stern competition still to get a regular spot, but what I love about George is he is a rugby lad, grew up in a rugby family (he made his Bradford debut in 2022 alongside his father, also George), he’s obsessed with the game, and obsessed with getting better.

“George is really buying into the things that he needs to work on. His fitness and his strength have improved throughout pre-season.

“I think we’re only going to see a better George Flanagan in 2026.”
