Alan Kilshaw says Oldham can challenge London Broncos

OLDHAM coach Alan Kilshaw says he and his players are determined to make London Broncos work hard for success this season.

The capital club has assembled a powerful squad that leads the second-tier table after a run of wins, which include a 25-8 home success against the Roughyeds in round two.

However, Oldham are among a group of challengers, overcoming off-field issues, including the resignation of chairman Bill Quinn, and the departure of a number of stars, the latest of them halfback Riley Dean to Bradford, to chalk up ten wins from twelve in the league.

The 30-10 Boundary Park victory over Midlands, a week after the Birmingham side won there in the quarter-finals of the 1895 Cup, made it nine Championship wins running.

And at the halfway point of the schedule, Kilshaw said: “I’m pleased with how we’re travelling.

“Our defence was good in the rematch against Midlands. We had plenty of intent and pretty much contained the players who had caused us problems the week before.

“The attack was a bit scratchy with too many errors, but Midlands scrambled well, and on another night, we’d probably have had three or four more tries.

“It’s been well documented that it hasn’t been smooth sailing off the field, but the players have kept their focus.

“To go to Barrow and win, back that up by beating Doncaster, then defeat another good side in Midlands was really good.

“I really enjoy coaching these players, we have a good connection, and it’s growing.

“London have been a bit of a runaway train, but if we can keep our momentum and get to the back end of the season in form and with everyone fit, we feel we can challenge them.”
