WAKEFIELD TRINITY have got the “perfect signing” in Emre Guler, head coach Daryl Powell reckons.
The St George Illawarra Dragons prop has penned a three-year deal from next season.
Guler, 28, has more than 120 NRL appearances under his belt across seven years at Canberra Raiders and two with St George.
He will complement a young and mostly overseas middle unit which also includes Ky Rodwell, Caleb Hamlin-Uele, Caius Faatili and Tray Lolesio alongside captain Mike McMeeken.
“Once we’d had a look at him, we were pretty fixed that he was the right player for us,” explained Powell.
“We had a chat and he came across so well, as well as any player I’ve spoken to before. Everything we got back on him was really positive and favourable.
“He’s playing regular NRL at the moment and he’s 28, so he’s the right sort of profile for us. He looks like absolutely the perfect signing for us.
“He’s such a good frontrower – he’s big and physical, carries the ball well, and from everything I hear he’s great around the environment.
“I see him as a starting frontrower which adds a bit of flexibility – we could use Mike (McMeeken) as a backrower at times, as we’ve done a bit this year.
“I think he’ll be awesome for the comp, and he’ll be a top-quality player for us.”
