Mark Applegarth addresses York Knights fan ‘frustrations’ following losing run

MARK APPLEGARTH has called on York Knights to continue supporting the head coach and players following a sticky patch of results.

The Knights haven’t won since late April – when they put Toulouse Olympique to the sword in a 38-14 hammering – and their recent run of form culminated in a dreadful 72-20 thrashing by Wigan Warriors last weekend.

Currently, York sit second bottom on the Super League ladder with only Huddersfield Giants below them.

But Applegarth is keen to stress that patience is required and that a lot of work is going into ensuring the Knights progress.

“I can’t thank the fans enough. I fully understand their frustrations at me, whether that’s with team selection or things that don’t feel like they’re changing,” Applegarth said.

“Believe me, a lot of work is going on that people don’t see right now, but I can’t thank the fans enough.

“And one thing I have loved since I’ve been at York is just how connected we feel to the fanbase.

“I thought they were class last year when we were going through the high times and I think they are even better this year when we are going through some pretty tough times.

“Stick with us, stick with the lads and stick with myself. It doesn’t go unnoticed how much support they have been giving us.”
