Goole Vikings’ ground to host special weekend with Hull KR involved

SUPER LEAGUE champions Hull KR and three-time FA Cup winners Sheffield Wednesday will headline a weekend of sport at the home of Goole Vikings.

The Victoria Pleasure Grounds will host a range of events between this Friday and Sunday as part of celebrations of the town’s establishment 200 years ago this month.

A packed three-day programme, delivered by the Vikings and their non-league football co-tenants Goole AFC, will feature four matches across their two sports, and the chance to meet the Vikings first-team squad at an open training session.

The action begins on Friday (July 17) evening, when Goole AFC take on a Sheffield Wednesday side for a friendly, kicking off at 7.30pm, with local junior club Goole Town Tigers taking to the field for a curtain raiser.

The next morning, the Vikings will throw open the gates for supporters to watch the first-team squad train ahead of their Championship fixture away at Whitehaven the following day.

The open training session, running from 10.30am until noon, will give fans the opportunity to watch preparations at close quarters before meeting members of the squad.

Shortly after, the focus turns to a Rugby League clash as Hull KR play a Reserves match against Leigh Leopards, kicking off at 1.30pm.

The Super League and World Club Challenge trophies, both currently in the Robins’ possession, will be on display at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds during the day.

Finally, on Sunday (July 19) there will be back-to-back charity football fixtures showcasing local teams and causes.

The programme forms part of a wider host of activities taking place across the town throughout the weekend, coordinated by Goole Civic Society, Goole Town Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
