RYAN CARR believes Castleford Tigers players will be better for the ‘hard lessons’ they are learning so far during the 2026 Super League season.
The Tigers have suffered damning defeats at the hands of Wakefield Trinity (48-6, 52-14), Warrington Wolves (72-6) and Hull KR (50-6), winning just seven of their 20 league games.
Carr, whose job at The Jungle coincides with his first as a head coach in Super League, has been taken aback by the amount of signings and people he has had to let go this season.
“Coming back into a new environment and new squad, there are comings and goings everywhere,” he explained.
“It’s always tricky but I probably didn’t envisage the amount of people we have had to play and bring in as many recruits mid-season for different reasons.
“We have done what we feel has been the best for the club for the right now and for the future also.”
With more incomings and outgoing expected at the end of the current campaign, Carr believes that some players can still earn a new deal at The Jungle for 2027.
“That’s how I see it,” he said.
“It’s an opportunity for whoever is running out there to be the best version of themselves and that’s what they get paid to do.
“It’s a good chance for a lot of people. There are some people learning hard lessons that will be better for it.
“A lot of people will come out the other side better players and better people for it.”
