JAI FIELD insists he is ‘doing his best’ to slot back into the Wigan Warriors side after missing a chunk of the season with injury.
Time on the sidelines with both a lower back problem and appendicitis has limited the fullback to just 20 appearances for Wigan so far, but he has returned to light up Super League with a number of impressive performances – not least a dazzling solo try in the 20-8 win over Leigh Leopards a week ago.
However, the 28-year-old was modest when asked about his form going into the business end of the season.
“I think I’ve been going ok. The team has been going really well and I’ve been doing my best to slot back in there,” Field told League Express.
“We have had a lot of change in personnel in the halves with Jack (Farrimond) going down and Bevan (French) coming back in.”
The Warriors have become pioneers on and off the field in recent years, with sojourns to Las Vegas (against Warrington last year) and Paris (against Catalans in June) aiming to spread the sport to previously untapped places.
And now Wigan and Warrington Wolves – the first two Super League sides to make the trip to Vegas – will be heading to Dublin in 2027.
“I think it’s really exciting,” enthused the fullback, who is keen to take the sport to a city he has never been to before.
“I’ve been lucky enough to go to a few places with Wigan, we’ve been to Las Vegas and Paris so it’s definitely something to look forward to.
“We want to try and get more eyes on the game over there and we are doing that by taking it to a place where rugby league isn’t really synonymous.
“Hopefully we can find a bit of form now and roll into the back end of the year.”
