WHITEHAVEN forward Jackson Smith is looking forward to building on his first starting appearances after signing a contract extension to 2028.
They came at loose-forward in the recent wins over Goole (home) and Hunslet (away), which took his match total to 16 after joining from nearby amateur side Hensingham earlier this year.
Versatile Smith, 18, who spent some time in Hull FC’s Academy, followed another ex-Hensingham player, teenage second rower Ben Pearce, in penning terms for the next two seasons as James Newton works to build on a bright start to his coaching tenure.
Halfback Ciaran Walker and prop Brad Brennan had previously agreed extensions to 2027, and Smith said: “This is my hometown club and one I’ve always supported.
“I was expecting to play for Hensingham for most of the season and have a handful of matches for Whitehaven, so I’ve had a lot more game time than I was expecting.
“It’s been a hard step up to the Championship, it’s faster and more powerful than I thought it would be. I’ve been getting myself fitter and stronger.”
Whitehaven host Dewsbury on Sunday.
