WILLIE PETERS believes critics of Hull KR have got a point in 2026, with the club so far failing to replicate the wonders of 2025.
After winning the domestic treble, alongside a World Club Challenge triumph in February, this Super League campaign has been fraught with inconsistency.
It had been touch-and-go as to whether Rovers made the top six after they followed their 40-10 Challenge Cup final defeat to Wigan Warriors with four league defeats in seven.
But since losing to Warrington Wolves last month, they have won four matches in a row, and can extend their advantage over seventh-placed St Helens from four points to six with victory in Tuesday night’s reverse fixture with Warrington.
However, Peters still feels that his side needs to bridge the gap between their worst and best performances if they are to have a chance of defending their Super League title.
“They’ve probably seen what we’ve done,” Peters said of any critics.
“Last year, we didn’t have big losses but everyone was saying we were dipping when we lost by six to Leeds here and then we lost to a very good Leigh team.
“People were saying the wheels were falling off but this year we’ve had 50 (58-6) put by us by Leeds (in Las Vegas in March) and then lost to Warrington by 30 points (34-12) the other week.
“Our best and our worst performances have been too far apart. I can certainly understand people not putting us in that top echelon of teams, but we are trying to improve and put ourselves in a position to fight for this trophy.
“Everyone has their opinion. All I will say is we need to improve to get where we want to.”
